I was saddened to read about the death of Mr. Cheney and I send my condolences to all the family. Although it has been many years since I saw him last, I remember him, and his wife, very well. When I attended the University of Maine at Machias, Mrs. Cheney was the principal at the campus school and Mr. Cheney knew my father in Calais as well as serving as our insurance adjuster on many occasions. Despite the many years that have passed, I remember him as being honest, forthright and always a gentleman. He was a pleasure to talk with and my family trusted his judgement whenever we had an insurance claim on our car or on the house. He was always fairminded and honorable and I always enjoyed seeing him. My best to everyone who is left to grieve for this good man and longtime son of Washington County.
