I had not heard of your passing

I saw the news and and went online to this site and was quite bothered that no one had taken the time to post a memory. I moved to Addison as a child, just entering 7th grade. I met Darwin and his family at this time as they lived near the school, the old S.S. Nash School. He was a few years older and in High School, his sister Maria was in my class with another younger sister Tina a few years younger in a class a year or two behind. While we were not friends at that time, I remember he would always say hi and treat you with respect. Ask you how you were doing, that sort of thing. A few years later, after High School graduation, beginning my working years, I would bump into him from time to time on the clam flats. He could dig clams with the best of them, but he preferred digging worms. Like the rest of us, he did what he could to make a living whether it was clamming, worming or picking brush or sometimes hopping aboard a boat as crew. All this time, he always took the time to say hello and share a story and ask how you were doing. Later years found us working together in the stern of some local gillnet boats. You were always happy to work with him because he was pleasant to work with coupled with a good sense of humor. He always did his fair share of work and probably some of the others work too and you never had to carry him. You knew you had a good day coming when he was aboard the boat working with you. He and I and another crew was with William (Killer) Smith the days that he had two of his biggest landings of over 16,000 lbs of fish the first day and 12,000 or so the second day. I was picking fish ahead of him and he was keeping the nets off the table as fast as he could. After that, we had dug a few clams together one spring and then kinda went off our separate ways, but always stopping to catch up on the latest news and remembering those memories of the big days fishing. Gonna miss you ole friend and giving you a hearfelt goodbye, Jim
