Condolence: To Nancy and all of Danny’s family,

I had to write and share the thanks and appreciation of Danny from a friend in distant Vermont. I liked and respected your husband, your father, your grandfather and

I’m so sorry he’s gone and for your loss. My family and I will miss him a great deal.
I met Danny only 6 years ago through our mutual friend, Bill Coperthwaite. When my family was building a home on Bill’s land, he suggested that we talk to Danny and see if he would help us get building materials to our site from the water. It was a “job” of just a few days but it led to a friendship of several years, one that would most certainly have continued. I remember how we met that first summer and how long after the job was done, Danny would leave us supplies of fresh vegetables or lobsters in a crate on our beach with no note. He was being a good neighbor and I learned from that. When our daughter, Wren, was 9 she wanted to go out on Danny’s boat and learn something about lobstering and Danny took her without question. Neither of us hesitated as my daughter motored off with Danny, and Wren remembers so fondly and appreciatively that day on the seas with him. We live more than 250 miles away and I would see Danny only a few times a year, but those occasions were always memorable because of his kindness and generosity. For example, I will always remember the time he called me at our farm in Vermont to let me know that our mutual friend, Bill, had died. The most important sort of information between two men was exchanged with a kindness that I will always appreciate and respect. And there was also the time when bad weather had set in and we had to get home and I called Danny for help and he showed up in his skiff an hour later on our beach ready to take us to Duck Cove. On another occasion, when Danny must have been busy with a hundred obligations and responsibilities, he loaned us his skiff. There were many occasions when Danny helped us and shared his life with us, and all of those are deeply appreciated. He was a very good man, a fine role model, and a friend who I will miss.

I’m writing to say that I respected and appreciated Danny Manchester and I hope our friendship with the Manchester family continues and grows.
