Eleanor Mae (Pine) Curtis , 87, wife of the late Raymond H. Curtis , died peacefully on March 21,2017 at Eastern Maine Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 11, 1929 in Lubec ,Maine the daughter of Livingston and Florence (Johnson) Pine. She grew up in Lubec and graduated from Lubec High School in 1947.
Eleanor became a Registered Nurse after attending the Maine General Hospital School of Nursing in Portland Maine. She was employed briefly as an industrial nurse at the American Can Co. in Lubec, after which she devoted her time to her husband and children. Later she was employed at the Eastport Memorial Hospital for a few years .
She was a member of the Dennysville-Edmunds Congregational Church where for many years served as organist and Sunday school teacher/ superintendent. She looked forward each year to presenting the Childrens' Christmas Concert and Summer Vacation Bible School. She was also an organist at churches in Lubec, Whiting, Pembroke , and Lake Placid Florida, where she and her husband spent several winters at the Maranatha Christian Conference Center, where they traveled in their RV. She and Raymond loved RV camping . Her leisure hours were spent braiding rugs, making quilts and afghans, and knitting.
She was predeceased by her husband Raymond, and infant son Ronald.
She is survived by her two sons Robert and his wife Laurie of Whiting , Kenneth of Dennysville , and one daughter Diane McCallum and husband David of Skowhegan ; six grandchildren – Michael Curtis and wife Kelley of Pembroke , Gwendolyn Walker and companion Bart Stratton of of Dedham , Stacie Curtis and fiance Bruce Hatton of Pembroke , Carrie Beyeler and husband John of Bangor , Ryan York and companion Jenny Morgenweck of Bangor , and Russell York and companion Nicole Rines of Waterville ; eight great- grandchildren – Jacob , Isacc , Naomi , Sarah , Courtney, and husband Kris, Branden , Ethan and Paige, and two great-great grandchildren Peyton Sullivan and Jaxon York; two sisters Esther McLaughlin of Whiting , and Catherine McLaughlin of Florida ; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
