Margaret L. (Wood) Flaherty ,83, passed away Aug. 16, 2014 at a Machias Healthcare facility. She was born in Machias July 22, 1931 the daughter of the late Stephen E. Sr. And Carrie (Hicks) Wood.
She loved the town of Machiasport , and was proud to serve its residents for over twenty years. She was a member of the Larabee Baptist Church, where she enjoyed many church functions. She also enjoyed , knitting , gardening, and loved to travel.
She is survived by ; four daughters- Bonnie Flaherty and her husband Mark Withee of Sullivan , Donna Calcasola and Karry Clements both of Amherst ; and Carrie Polley of East Machias ; grandchildren – Christopher Fickett and wife Tina and their sons Thomas and Christopher of Clifton , Jill Fickett and her son Cole Ingalls of Sullivan , Jessica Urquhart and her daughters Regina ,Cassidy, and Cadence of Machiasport , John Polley , and Carlo Calcasola and his wife Ashley and their children Chloe and Cameron of Old Town ; a brother John and wife Carol of Machiasport; three sisters- Wynona Lopes and husband Bill of Manchester, CT ,Lois Wasson of Old Town, and Nellie Gatcomb and husband Tim of East Machias; a sister-in-law Mary Clark and her husband Thatcher of Marshfield two brothers-in-law Robert Flaherty and wife Norma of Marshfield, and Earl Jr of Whitneyville ;many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Reginald this past May; two brothers Kennneth and Stephen Jr ; a sister Beatrice Graham, and a son-in-law Kevin Clements.
Visiting hours will be held from 6-8 pm Tuesday August 19, 2014 at the Larabee Baptist Church where funeral services will be held at 11 am the following day Wednesday Aug. 20, 2014 with Pastor William Holmes officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, Bucks Harbor. Followed by a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers , donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , Maine Chapter , 383 US Route 1, Suite 2C Scarborough, ME 04070.
