Obituary for Verna Manchester

Verna Manchester
Machias

Verna Manchester, 79, died peacefully October 20th at Marshall's Nursing Home with Morgan Seeley (social services director and long time friend) at her side.

Verna lived most of her life in Machias where she was known and loved by many people. As a young woman she loved dancing and playing the guitar and she had a beautiful singing voice. She was a social, engaging, out-spoken, stubborn, and hilarious woman. You never knew what was going to come out of her mouth. Her greatest interests were eating out, socializing,
smoking, and watching tv. She went often to the local restaurants with friends and knew all the waitresses by name. She never hesitated to complain if everything wasn't as she thought it should be, but she had a way of doing so that only endeared her to the staff. She always said the "quiet part" out loud.

Verna was predeceased by her parents William and Mabel Hill Manchester; her older sister, Rebecca Rier, who meant the world to Verna; her brother Buddy Manchester, who passed away at a young age in the service; and an infant sister, Dorris Manchester. She was also tragically predeceased by four nephews.

She has one living sibling, Norris, and his wife Norma of Roques Bluff, and their three surviving children. Also, her deceased sister, Rebecca's four surviving children. All dearly loved Verna ("Auntie Vee").

Graveside services will be 1 pm Saturday November 12th at the Court Street Cemetery, Machias.
