Obituary for Eldon L "Buster" Hayward

Dennysville - Eldon “Buster” Leroy Hayward, 80, passed away at a Bangor Hospital on October 21, 2022 after a period of declining health. Buster was born on June 23rd, 1942 to Milton H. and Phyllis C (Stanhope) Hayward of Edmunds Township and attended school in Dennysville. Buster married Carolyn S. McGibney in June of 1973 at People’s United Methodist in Pembroke.


Buster was employed for many years as an equipment operator for the Maine Department of Transportation. He enjoyed many hours of hunting and fishing in the area with friends and family and had been active with the Dennysville Fire Department in previous years. He was a member of the Order of Odd Fellows in Pembroke. Buster was also a member of Crescent Lodge #78/St. Croix Lodge #46, Crescent/St. Croix Chapter of York Rite Masons, the Scottish Rite Masons, Order of Eastern Star, Anah Shrine of Bangor, and the Schoodic Shrine Club.


Buster was predeceased by his parents, his sister Charlene Myers, and her husband Earl of Whiting. He is survived by his wife of 49 years,his brother-in-law Philip and wife Joan McGibney of Florida, his sister Lorie Johnson and her husband Scott of Edmunds, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.


Buster received the most kind and family style care at Fresenius Kidney Care Sunrise County Dialysis of Eastport for the past six years and was grateful to them for all they did for him.


There will be graveside service with Masonic honors at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 29th, at the Dennysville Cemetery with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Dennysville Volunteer Ambulance Service in care of Roberta Seeley, 1935 US Route One, Edmunds TWP., ME 04628.
