Obituary for Sylvia Peabody (Lenfestey)

Sylvia Lenfestey Peabody, Madbury, NH, age 87 went home to be
with her Lord and many loved ones on June 25, 2022, surrounded by
her loving family & kitty “Skeets”. She was born on May 17, 1935, at
Beals Island, ME, to Farrell and Myrtle (Beal) Lenfestey.
Sylvia graduated from Beals High School in 1952 as Valedictorian of
her class. After a brief study at Graceland College in Lamoni, IA,
she returned to Maine to attend and graduate from Washington State
Teachers’ College, Machias, ME in 1956 with a BS in Elementary
Education. She continued her studies in the field of Special
Education and Reading, and taught in both capacities in ME, MA,
and NH for 35 years.
Sylvia and her beloved husband, Earl H. Peabody, were married on February 19, 1956, and enjoyed many years of love and adventure. They were blessed with two very special and devoted children, Cheryl Anita (Peabody) Szacik of Madbury, NH and Ronald Hilton Peabody, a 21 year Coast Guard veteran, who died on August 31, 2012, at the age of 53.
Sylvia was a lifelong member of the Community of Christ Church, a charter member of the Beals Historical Society, and held memberships in Teacher’s Associations in ME, MA, and NH. She and Earl attended and participated in the Emanuel Advent Christian Church in Rochester, NH, for several years. They retired in 1995 and returned to her beloved Beals Island for ten blessed years. She loved being “Homagen” (home again) until 2005, when Earl’s declining health made it necessary for them to move back to Rochester, NH.
Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Cheryl, and son-in-law Peter of Madbury, NH; sister & brother-in law, Carolyn (Lenfestey) and Jon Gordon of Eliot, ME; several very special nieces and nephews; five step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren.
Sylvia was predeceased by her husband, Earl Hilton Peabody; son, Ronald Hilton Peabody; her parents Farrell & Myrtle (Beal) Lenfestey; step-grandson, Craig Rochette.

Funeral arrangements have been made by McClure Funeral Home. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, July 22, 2022, open to all, from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the Community of Christ Church on Beals Island, ME.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at 1:00pm at the Community of Christ Church. There will be a short committal service at the Church following the service.
