Oscar "Roby" Robinson passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 28, 2022. He was born in Lubec on February 3, 1949, to the late Roger Robinson and the late Doris Anderson Robinson.
Roby graduated from Lubec High School class of '67 and remained friends with the majority of his class. After retiring and returning to Lubec, he enjoyed having a mini-reunion with some of his closest friends every 4th of July.
After graduation he worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft before enlisting in the United States Navy. He completed 25 years of active duty serving as airman, petty officer, and chief petty officer before becoming a commissioned officer. When he retired from the Navy he became employed as a government contractor before entering into the Civil Service.
He was embedded on the staff of Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic as PEO/W Carriers. He was the lead on design planning and implementation for CVN Weapons Department spaces for all Nimitz class CVN hulls from the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN72) through Ford class CVN USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN78).
On May 23, 2017, he was presented with the Navy Superior Civilian Services Award by Captain Bill Bindel at his retirement ceremony, which was held at the Mobile Ordnance Training Team (MOTT) building. After Roby's retirement ceremony, the presiding officer, Captain Alan Dean, officially renamed the MOTT building to the "Oscar Robinson Ordnance Training Facility". A plaque with several photos of Roby along with his military and civilian biographies will hang on the Quarter Deck for future redshirts to read about Roby's legacy. No words, awards, or even the building named in his honor could ever properly recognize the contributions he accomplished in his 50 year tenure.
After retiring from the Civil Service he and his wife, Linda Ross Robinson, moved back to their hometown where he continued to serve as a member of the American Legion, Lubec Lions Club, and as the chairman on the board of trustees of the West Lubec United Methodist Church.
He lived a life of service, first to his country and then to his community. He was loved and respected by many and will be dearly missed.
He was predeceased by his father, Roger Robinson, and his mother, Doris Anderson Robinson, and a brother, Larry Robinson. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda Ross Robinson, his son James Robinson and his wife Deborah Robinson of Elberon, Virginia, his son Jason Robinson and his wife Angela Robinson of Woodlawn, Virginia; his four grandchildren, Trace Robinson, Sydney Robinson, Hannah Robinson, and Colby Robinson; his brother Peter Robinson of Lubec, his sister Judy Robinson of Levant, Maine, and brother Lance Robinson of Anchorage, Alaska; several nieces and nephews, and his classmate/brother Leroy Kelley.
Services will be held on Wednesday, June 1, at the American Legion Post 65 at 2:00 PM, followed by a celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the West Lubec Methodist Church in his memory at P.O. Box 385, Lubec, Maine 04652.
He will forever be remembered for his selflessness, devotion to his family and friends, and loyalty to the military and country which he loved. He had a life well lived and will be eternally missed by those blessed to have known him.
