Obituary for Gerald E. "Jerry" Quimby

Gerald E. Quimby, "Jerry," 83, left us Thursday, July 1, 2021, at home with his wife, eldest son, and faithful dog by his side. He was born November 16, 1937, in Bucks Harbor, Maine (now Machiasport), the son of the late Cecil E. and Ethel N. (Holmes) Quimby. Jerry spent early years in Mamaroneck, NY and Bayonne, NJ.

When the family returned to Bucks Harbor after the war, Jerry developed his passion for hunting and fishing. Jerry was a proud graduate of Washington Academy, class of 1955. During high school, Jerry loved to play basketball and had a record score of 51 points in one game. Jerry started working around the age of 13 by digging clams to save up for his first car. He worked on the Cutler towers, climbing nearly to the top of the highest tower, before settling into becoming an electrician. Shortly into his career, he joined the I.B.E.W., local union 1253, then became a master electrician and remained one until his retirement at the age of 72. In 1965, he married Ann Marie Harmon, with whom he spent the next 56 years of his life, and with whom he exchanged a last "I love you" just before his passing. Jerry was a past Maine registered guide, a member of Warren Lodge No. 2 and Anah Shrine Temple of Bangor.

Along with his parents, Jerry was predeceased by his only sister, whom he adored, Carolyn Quimby Wood; a special mother-in-law, Lettie Harmon; and two special Yorkshire terriers, Winston, and Lydia Lettie. Besides his loving wife of 56 years, and his dog, Winston II, Jerry is survived by his large family, all of whom he loved, and they all loved him in return. His family includes his children, Kathy Quimby Harmon, Kelley Quimby Cates and her husband, Gregory, Billie Quimby Lamarre and her husband, Kevin, Gerald A. Quimby and his wife, Carol, and Troy A. Quimby. His grandchildren, Natalie Harmon Houde, April Harmon Armstrong, Crystle Cates Fergerson, Cassie Cates, Katie Cates Richardson, Kayla Lamarre Gaudette, Michael Lamarre, Patrick Quimby and Benjamin Quimby. Jerry had twenty three great-grandchildren, with two on the way. Many, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A special nephew, Cecil Wood. Lifetime friends, Ralph Richardson and Pat and Stan Dennison. A special hunting pal, Alan Huntley.

Graveside services will be held at 1p.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at the Jacksonville Cemetery in East Machias, immediately followed by a second service at the Quimby Family Cemetery in Bucks Harbor, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (lls.org).
