Obituary for Bradley M Woodward
Bradley M. Woodward of Milbridge, Maine passed away May 5, 2021 at Northern Light Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth, Maine. He was born in Machias, Maine on October 20, 1956 to Jane M. Robinson and Erroll G. Woodward. During his childhood he spent summers camping with his beloved grandparents Oscar and Diana Wallace on Head Harbor Island where he enjoyed playing on the rock beach, sailing toy boats, and hiking through the woods. He attended Summer Memorial High School his freshman year where his basketball coach nicknamed him “Spider” because of his long legs, fingers and quickness. This nickname followed him even when he transferred to Jonesport-Beals High School where he graduated in 1975. He was a four year member of the varsity basketball squad and was selected to the 1974 and 1975 Eastern Maine Class D All-Tournament Teams and was a three time Washington County All-Star. As a young boy, Bradley would practice shooting a rubber ball through an oatmeal box taped to a door for hours. This paid off later in life when he registered 1240 points during his high school career before the three point shot existed.
Bradley enjoyed following the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox and during the time of Larry Bird’s career was an avid Boston Celtics fan. He had the ability to remember dates and other sports trivia and he could tell you anything about Larry Bird’s career accomplishments.
Bradley worked as a lobster fisherman and clam digger and in 2003 decided to sell his lobster boat and went to work for 14 years as a sternman for Charles Colwell, fishing out of Corea. He considered Charles and his wife Paula a part of his family.
He is survived by his cousins who he considered sisters, Gail Beal and her husband Farrell, and Wendy Beal; his son Ryan Libby and wife Heather and children Taylor, Sydney, and Chase; his aunts Lorraine Wallace, Sandra Beal , and Kay Seefeldt; his father Erroll and wife June; a brother Jay and a sister Heather. He will be fondly remembered by close friends Rick Sawyer, Vinal and Nancy Crowley, and John Haycock. He was predeceased by his mother, and stepfather Paul Robinson; his brother Alan Dale Woodward; his grandparents Oscar and Diana Wallace, Erroll and Evelyn Woodward, and Ola Woodward; uncle Oscar Wallace, Jr.; and Wendy’s husband Dickey Beal.
