Obituary for Pamela S Davis
PAMELA S. DAVIS (5-22-1948 – 4-18-2021)
BEALS, MAINE. Pamela Strout Davis fell peacefully asleep in the arms of her Lord on April 18, 2021 after years of declining health from complications from diabetes and a recent heart attack. Her spirit has returned to God who gave it, and she now rests in the blessed hope of the resurrection in the Last Day at the second coming of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. “When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.” Pamela was born May 22, 1948 at Ellsworth Hospital, the daughter of the late Emery B. Strout and Rosalee Strout of Milbridge, but the father she knew longest and best was her mother’s second husband, Lewis Lund, Jr., of Jacksonville, Maine. Before moving to Jacksonville as a young girl, she and her mother lived in Milbridge with her grandparents, Clifford and Flora Edna Strout. She attended Elementary School in Milbridge, grammar school in Jacksonville, graduated from Washington Academy in 1966, and went on to attend the University of Maine at Machias where she met the love of her life, Daniel F. Davis at lockers 52 and 64. She also attended Husson College in Bangor where she furthered her studies in business education. She was a hard worker all her life, first working at Farris Dry Goods in Machias to help with college expenses, then for a number of years as Deputy Register of Deeds for Washington County. She also worked for a short time as bookkeeper for Beal’s Lobster Company in Jonesport, then as Assistant Treasurer for Washington County and later as a bookkeeper at Sunrise Workshop in Machias. She finished her career as Office Manager for Addison Point Specialized Services in Addison, retiring following a debilitating stroke in 2005. Upon moving to Beals in 1972, she served as tax collector for a number of years and secretary for Beals Historical Society from the time of its founding. She was a woman of great faith, often heard saying, “The Dear Lord will take care of it. Everything will turn out all right.” She attended the Federated Church of Milbridge as a child, was later a member of Machias Valley Baptist Church during her teenage years, and transferred her membership to Beals Advent Christian Church upon marriage where she and Danny became close friends of Pastor Ray Brown and wife Donaline. She attended Addison Church on the Hill for a number of years with her husband in his music ministry there, then became active in the church that she came to know and love, Harrington Baptist Church, from 1982 to present. There she was active as assistant church treasurer, kitchen committee and fund raising committee member, and contact person for the prayer chain. She was a great encourager and example to others of true love, compassion, and a tender heart. Her generous donations to the church renovations project helped make possible numerous improvements to the sanctuary, kitchen, fellowship area, and numerous other undertakings over the past 39 years. She dearly loved her church family and was always concerned for their needs, her motivation and zeal for the work of the church being an inspiration to all despite her own handicapping condition. Despite having been confined to a wheel chair since 2005, she was highly motivated and believed she could do anything she set her mind to. She was never one to say “no” but was always willing and eager to serve in any capacity. She was also skilled in crafts of various kinds, loved making quilts, doing embroidery, doing word searches and puzzles, and most of all sharing her work for others to enjoy. Her latest venture, although severely limited by her stroke, was personalized pillowcases for numerous people and a baby quilt for a soon arrival in the family.
Pamela is survived by her husband, Danny, a brother Emery D. Strout and wife Sharon of Machiasport and their son Clifford Strout and Family of Jonesboro; a brother Emery I. Strout and wife Barbara of Orono and family; brother-in-law Ralph Davis, Jr. and wife Phyllis; sister-in law Barbara Bragg of Waldoboro; aunts Helen Strout of Milbridge, Eleanor Libby of Beals, and Donna Porter of Biddeford; nephew (more like a son) Rev. David W. Davis and wife Vicki and family of Carmel. Cousin Michael Strout and wife Jenny of Milbridge and family; a dear friend, cousin, and sister Wanda Alley and husband Ronald of Jonesport; god children Nathaniel Alley and family of Jonesport and Kadi Merchant of Columbia Falls; as well as numerous other extended family. She was also very close to her niece Angela Davis of Harrington and family. Her many friends are too numerous to mention, but two who were especially dear to her were her “walking buddies” Donna Bunker and Diane Alley who frequently included her in their daily walks to Backfield Park in her motorized chair. She will be especially missed by her large feline family of 28, especially Brock who slept on the arm of her wheelchair or in her arms most of the time.
She was predeceased by her parents as mentioned, her mother-and-father-in-law, Ralph O. Davis, Sr. and wife Velma Smith Davis, a dear “aunt” Adelaide Corey of Arundel, Uncle Frank Strout of Milbridge, and a precious nephew, Douglas E. Strout, among others too numerous to mention. She was also predeceased by a dear working friend Valerie Batson of Addison, and one who meant more to her than words can express, the late Lawrence B. Norton of Jonesport.
Visiting hours will be from 1 to 8 pmTuesday April 20, 2021 at the Harrington Baptist Church.
Covid guidleines of social distancing and wearing masks are required. There will be a graveside service and committal at Sewall Field Cemetery in Beals on Wednesday April 21,2021 at 11:00 A.M. for all who wish to pay their respects.
