Richard “Richie” Eugene Richards 74,of East Machias died on Saturday February 13, 2021, peacefully at home with his loving wife by his side,after a courageous battle with cancer. Richie was born December 27,1946, in Roque Bluffs, Maine to the late Harold and Ester(Foss) Richards. He was a graduate of Machias Memorial High School in 1965. Richie then went on to serve in the Army where he was on active duty in the Vietnam War from 1966-1968. During his military service he was awarded several service badges. After serving his country, he attended the Northern Maine Vocational Technical Institute in Presque Isle. Upon completion, in 1972, he began working for F.E.S. and later owned and operated R&R Electric. In 1984 he began a new job at the Cutler Naval Station as a base electrician and later as a power control man, a position he held until he retired in 2003. Richie was a member of Harwood Masonic Lodge #91 for 45 years, a life member of Disabled American Veterans, and was very proud to be a member of the Anah Temple Shrine. Richie thoroughly enjoyed residing on Gardener Lake with his wife Linda. His happiest moments were on the lake when he was cruising around on his boat, riding the jet ski, pulling kids on tubes and water skis, having cookouts with his family and friends and watching the sunset on the horizon from his sailboat. When Richie wasn't enjoying life on the lake, he was participating in camping adventures, 4-wheeling excursions, and snowmobile trips. Richie had a true passion for life and lived it to the fullest.
Richie is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Linda (Geel) Richards; his two sons Royce of Brunswick, Darren and his partner Lori Knowlton, of Madison. He was also a loving and devoted grandfather of three; Romayn Richards and his wife Cassie of Brunswick, Otis Richards of Madison, and Britni Sullivan and her husband Kurtis of Machias. He also had one great grandchild,Walker Sullivan of Machias; four siblings- a sister Paula Quinn and her husband Gary of Machias, Herbert Richards of Roque Bluffs, Bryon Richards of Augusta, and Harold Richards, and his wife Karen, of Brunswick. Richie was a caring uncle to many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Richie held a very special place in his heart for his “best buddy” Mason Hinerman of Machiasport. Another individual he always considered family,was Kelly Jessiman of Cutler,the mother of two of his grandchildren. Richie also had numerous cousins and friends.
