Wayne D. Ingalls
Bucks Harbor
Wayne D. Ingalls left his wheelchair on September 2 to walk with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. With "Pushbutton" for a handle he loved talking to his "CB" friends on the water and he sends his final "over and out". Wayne was born on May 9 ,1946, the youngest of three children to the late Kenneth and Doris ( Clark) Ingalls. He claimed Bucks Harbor as home and dealt with Cerebral Palsy his entire life. Wayne was a very smart and observant man and was very proud he had been able to give his Dad instructions on how to build the camp on the Island! He spent his entire life in a wheelchair, but it never held him back. He never pitied himself, and often had tears in his eyes when he saw abused animals or people he saw as worse off than himself on TV. A big part of his life happened when he moved to Portland to live on his own, much to his parents dismay. He had a very successful and adventurous time while living on his own for close to five years. Bessie Moe joined Wayne as companion and caregiver and was with him over 20 years. Bessie gave Wayne many years of help and happiness. Kyla OConner has been with Wayne for the last ten years as main caregiver and earned a special place in his heart, as did Joanie Anthony while he was in Marshal Health Care for a couple of years. Wayne's sister Marie and husband have been filling in the blank hours of care and companionship for the last 3 or 4 years, continuing a service Marie has done off and on since Wayne was born. She was his main caregiver so their mother could work when they were growing up.
