MACHIAS- Nancy E. (Yeaton) Grant, 94, passed away April 6, 2020 at Marshall’s Health Care Facility. She was born October 13, 1925 in Milbridge, the daughter of Seth and May (Walls) Yeaton. Nancy was married on July 10, 1953 for 23 years to Ralph S. Grant. She worked for W.T. Grant Company in Calais, she was a switchboard operator for New England Telephone in Machias, a secretary for Dr. Karl Larson in East Machias and proudly finished her career, retiring from Down East Community Hospital as a medical transcriptionist. She was a lifelong member of The Order of The Eastern Star, Chapter 83 in Machias and the First Congregational Church of East Machias. Nancy is survived by her granddaughters, Brenda Hedtke and husband Rick, Denise Pennell and husband, Tim; grandchildren, Amber (Wood) Sirote, Katlynn Wood, McKenna Hedtke, Laine Pennell and Grant Pennell; a very special niece, Cynthia Bowen, many great friends including Brenda Cloney and Wanda Locke and a stepdaughter, Sharon. Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Seth and May Yeaton; her husband, Ralph Grant; her son, Bertram James (Jim) Cloney III; stepson, Gary Grant and all of her nine brothers and sisters, Everett, James, Elmer, William, Seth Jr, Eva (Armitage), Matilda (Matthews), Sylvia and Roger. Nancy was known for her quick-wit, her quick-smile, her infectious, fun spirit and the love that she had for her friends and family. She will be remembered with so much love by the many memories she created and the lives she touched. The stories of her roller skating exploits, her champion bubble gum blowing and her joy in burning a grilled cheese sandwich for anyone willing to agree to one will be remembered and carried on by her granddaughters and their families that she cherished and who cherished her in return. There will be a graveside memorial at the Jacksonville Cemetery. Details to be provided at a later date.
