Edna Mae Newman, 89, died December 21, 2019 at a Machias hospital. She was born April 2,1930 in Monticello,ME to the late Fred and Flora (Beaton) Leavitt. Edna was always a hard worker, having worked in many jobs in the area to include Ware Knitters in Calais, fire watch at Georgia Pacific in Baileyville for Local# 1377, Ocean View Nursing Home, A&P Grocery Store, and Dodge's Variety Store all in Lubec. She also worked many years for Rad Pike, and was proud to have to opportunity to cook a chocolate cake for F.D.R. Jr. In more recent years she had owned and operated Edna's Flower Shop until her retirement in 2008. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, and enjoyed dancing.
She is survived by 3 sons-Frederick Howland of Princeton, Brian Newman and wife Felicia of Lubec, and Jeff Newman and wife Joette of Ellsworth; a step-daughter Julie Lord of WA ; 11 grandchildren -Louie, Kristiana, Celena, Christopher, Travis, Logan, Erik, Kierra, Morgan, Marissa, and Chase; 7 great-grandchildren; a brother Elmer Beaton of Monticello, and a half brother Blaine Cox of Houlton; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister Joanne Day.
Graveside services will be announced at a later date by McClure Family Funeral Services of Lubec.
