Martha Blanche (Reynolds) Harmon, 94, passed away August 23, 2019 at Seaport Village Healthcare in Ellsworth. She was born March 7, 1925 in Etna the daughter of the late Dean S. and Theresa C. (Ireland) Reynolds.
She attended schools in Newport, Etna , and the Washington State Normal School. She graduated from the University of Maine, Machias with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught at schools in Maine towns to include Etna, Canaan, Corinna,Carmel, Northfield, Pembroke, and Cutler . She also worked in the Milliken textile mill, as well as Graham's Restaurant in Machias. Following retirement she owned her own ceramic shop.
Martha was a 50 year member of Lakeview Rebekah Lodge of Etna, and Cleoria Rebekah Lodge of Corinna. She was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star, and a member of the Hannah Weston Chapter of D.A.R. both of Machias. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile, a former member of Mt. Etna Grange of Etna , and a former member of Jacksonville Grange of East Machias. Martha was inspired to make Johnnie and caps for children at Shriner Hospitals after a visit to Springfield,MA . She loved to do crafts, crosswords puzzles and reading.
She is survived by her daughters ; Amy and Algy Wood of Machias, Maryann and Wendell McLaughlin of Bangor, Nancy and Clayton Oliver of Hancock, and Carole Harmon of East Machias ; grandchildren- Andrew,Aaron,Adam,Wendell Jr.,Christina,Amber, Katie, Robert,and Emily; 14 great grandchildren-Quentin, Kyle, Alex, Aleah, Sarah, Nathan, Galli, Kale, Lyra, Wyatt, Kolt, Sutton, Bentley, and Charles ; a brother Nathan Reynolds; a sister Thayes Harmon; a sister-in-law Lorraine Harmon;many nieces , nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 49 years Charles; a granddaughter Christina; and two brothers Dean Jr and Paul.
Friends may visit with the family from noon until time of funeral services at 2pm on Thursday August 29, 2019 at McClure Family Funeral Home 467 Route 1,Machias with services officiated by Pastor David Gardner , including Eastern Star services.
