Obituary for Ralph E Alley

Ralph E. Alley
Beals

Ralph E. Alley, 87, of Beals Island, Maine, was called away on July 4, 2019. He was born to Harvey C. & Grace E. (Brown) Alley on May 4, 1932. Although Ralph’s “Mama” was taken from this earth during his teenage years, she lived on in his broken heart. Ralph graduated from Beals High School, Class of 1950. He served in the United States Navy from 1950-1954, during the Korean War. Ralph returned to Beals to continue his life-long marine harvesting (sardines, scallops, quahogs, shrimp, fish, & lobsters), which began in his early years with his father, Harvey, and grandfather, Frank, hauling lobster traps by hand in a row boat. He continued that tradition employing his own sons. Few can boast over 80 years of ocean employment.Ralph was one of the founding fathers of BJ CO-OP, a proud member of the NRA and Masonic Lodge #188 AF&AM. Ralph had a passion for painting. His paintings are much admired by friends and family. He possessed an eye for propeller refurbishing. He was an avid music lover and enjoyed strumming his guitar, penning his own little ditties, and being part of “The Jamboree”. He had a love for motorcycles, and enjoyed camping on Head Harbor Island. He was known for his way of telling people exactly what was on his mind, yet still showed a kind and compassionate spirit.
Ralph was pre-deceased by his parents, Harvey & Grace; his paternal grandparents, William “Frank” & Lena A. (Beal) Alley; his maternal grandparents, George A. & Grace (Dunning) Brown; and grandson, Dale R. Fenton.
Ralph leaves behind the love of his life, his “Better Half” of 61 years, Joyce L. (Lenfestey) Alley. Their love story began the day he knocked on the school door asking if he could speak to Joyce. They married in December of 1957. He also leaves behind his children: Raynard F. Alley & wife Candace “Candy” of Beals; Lenell S. (Alley) Fenton & husband Dale of Scarborough and Beals; Bethanie G. (Alley) Beal & husband Daniel “Danny” of Beals; Wilma J. (Alley) Jones & husband Robert “Bobby” of Jonesport; Sheldon E. Alley & wife Michele of Jonesport. Grandchildren: Abraham D. Beal & wife, Whitney; Kimberly J. (Fenton) Burke & husband Alex; Marcus D. Fenton & wife Kelsey; Andrew E. A. Beal & fiance Dedra; Lindsey J. Jones; Suzanne L. Fenton; Dylan T. Alley; Kelsey M. Ralph is survived by (also some pre-deceased by) special brother and sister in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, too many to name individually.
