Norman A. (Bud) Dakin Jr., 82 of Addison, passed away peacefully at home April 25, 2019 with family by his side. Bud was born in Stoneham, Mass., June 9, 1936, the son of Norman A. and Julia (Joy) Dakin. Bud graduated from Arlington High School in 1954 and served in the U S Navy for four years.

Bud purchased the Western Auto Store in Jonesport in 1974, relocating the family from Massachusetts. He operated the Western Auto and then Jonesport Tire and Auto until 1994. He then went to work for Carver Oil and Dead River Company until his retirement in 2012.
Bud was a member of Tuscan Lodge #106 for many years, serving as secretary for 31 years. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, the Red Sox, and vintage cars. He had the gift of gab, telling story after story.
Bud is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judith A. (Hughes) Dakin. Together they raised three children whom survive him, Donna J. (Dakin) Crowley of Addison; Norman P. Dakin and his wife, Jackie, of Windham; and Denise J. (Dakin) Chandler and her husband, Roger, of Hancock. Bud loved his grandchildren, Keith Chandler and his fiancé, Lauren Joliat, of Raleigh, NC; Klaire Chandler of Salem, MA, and Ashley (Dakin) Howard of Cape Coral, FL; as well as a great-granddaughter, Audrey Grace Howard, of Cape Coral, FL. He leaves his sister-in-laws, Nancy Dakin, Linda Buttimer, Lorrie Hughes, and Robyn Gargan and her husband, Bobby, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bud was predeceased by his parent; in-laws, William and Mildred Hughes; an infant daughter, Diane Joyce; son-in-law, Sheldon Crowley; brother, David Dakin; and brother-in-laws, Billy Hughes and Pete Buttimer.
A Masonic funeral service will be held at United Faith Methodist Church, Route 1, Columbia, on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 2 PM following visiting hours and light refreshments from 1 to 2 PM. Interment will be at Joyville Cemetery, Addison, with military honors.
