Abbie M. (Reynolds) Getchell, 90, of Marshfield died on April 8, 2019, at home

Evangeline (Bagley) Reynolds, Abbie grew up on High Street in Machias the only
daughter after 5 sons.
A 1946 graduate of Machias High School, she spent 1 ½ years at Washington
State Teacher’s College before marrying her schoolmate Raymond Getchell in 1947.
They raised three daughters in the home they built in Marshfield. She is survived by
Barbara McKinley and her husband Jim of Wells, ME; Alison Savard and her husband
Jean of East Machias; 2 granddaughters Jennifer Savard-Johnson and her husband
John of Monmouth and Marie Ames and her husband Mike of Levant; 2 wonderful great
grandsons, Richard Raymond and Tyler Mark Johnson, as well as many nieces,
nephews, and cousins.
Abbie is predeceased by her husband of 61 years Raymond in 2008 and
daughter Joan in 2011, her 5 brothers and their spouses, Morris (Faye), Judson (Dot),
Alphonso (Charlotte), John Henry (Rebecca), and Fred (Norma).
Abbie spent numerous hours volunteering in several organizations including the
VFW Auxiliary, Sunshine Club for Children, life member of Machias Chapter #83 OES
where she was an officer for many years, Marshfield Congregational Church (assistant
organist), Red Hatters with good friend Joyce; and square dancing with pals Dot and
Harlan.
Abbie was always ready to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors. She
was gifted in sewing and made clothes for all three of her daughters. Always busy, she
made many crafts for the Blueberry Festival. One of her greatest joys was to play the
piano at home.
Per Abbie’s wishes, she will be buried between Raymond and Joan in the Joseph
Getchell cemetery by her family in a private service.
Thanks to all who have been a part of her life and been there for her through these last few months. The family wishes to thank the staff from CHCS Hospice and the staff from Loving Care who helped make
it possible for her to remain at home.
