Obituary for Spencer Brian Beal

Spencer B. Beal

Addison

Spencer B. Beal, 55, of Addison, Maine, passed away unexpectedly at Eastern Maine Medical Center on August 8, 2018. He was born August 7, 1963 in Bar Harbor, to Mariner and Gusty (Wallace) Beal.
Spencer grew up on Beal’s Island and graduated from Jonesport-Beals High School in 1981. After high school, Spencer attended Washington County Technology in Eastport, Maine, where he studied diesel mechanics.
Spencer used his knowledge of boats and machinery to make a living on the sea in various capacities for most of his adult life. He was an experienced boat surveyor, working closely with local boat owners and businesses. He also hauled lobster traps from his own boat, Mamma Tried. He took great pride in having his family aboard, particularly special to him was time spent teaching the trade to his young grandchildren.
In 2005 Spencer fulfilled a long time dream of opening his own boat shop. Uncle Bunk’s Boat Shop provided boat building, finishing and repairs to commercial fishermen.
Family was paramount in Spencer’s life. After meeting the love of his life, Maria Golding, and her two small children in 1986, he quickly became a permanent fixture in their lives. He took to fatherhood with the same dedication and enthusiasm that he was known for in all areas of his life.
After many years together, Spencer and Maria married in 2010, surrounded by family and friends, at their favorite place in the world, their camp on Schoodic Lake.
Anyone who knew Spencer, knows that he had a true zest for life and laughter and could instantly brighten any room. Some of his favorite ways to pass the time were cheering loudly from the stands for his grandchildren at their sporting events, telling his new favorite joke, playing the drums and guitar (air or otherwise) with his nephew Chris, enjoying a Busch Light on the deck at camp with friends, or doing anything at all with, Maria.
Spencer is survived by his wife Maria (Golding) Beal; daughter Mandy Kane and husband Timothy Kane of Addison; son Derek Lapointe and wife Christina Lapointe of Southwest Harbor; grandchildren Keenan and Chase Kane and Mason and Genevieve Lapointe; and his brother Isaac Beal and wife Eva Beal of Beal’s Island. Spencer is also lovingly remembered by nieces and nephews; Wyatt and Lorena Beal of Tremont, Timothy and Tracy Beal of Addison, Christopher and Brigitte Beal of Addison, Kelley and Scott Allen of North Monmoth, Heidi and James Brague of Jonesport, Sally Bassett of Addison, Richard and Shirley Bassett of New Jersey, Clark and Virginia Butler of Arkansas, and many, many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews who held a very special place in his heart.
Already waiting for him in Heaven are Spencer’s parents Mariner and Abegail “Gusty” Beal; sister Gracie Emerson; granddaughter Karmen Kane; nephews Jacob Beal and Nicky Golding; great niece Kaylee Mae Schoppee; mother in law Ramona Golding; and brother in law Darwin Golding.
Graveside services will be held at 4:00 pm, Monday, August 13, 2018, at the Church Hill Cemetery, Addison. A reception will immediately follow at Uncle Bunk’s Boat Shop.
