Obituary for Donald Keith "Donnie" Wright Sr.
MILBRIDGE – Donald Keith “Donnie” Wright, Sr. died August 2,2018 after a long illness. He was born in Lamoine, ME on September 30, 1931, the son of Frank and Gladys (Graves) Wright. He was educated in Portland and Jonesport schools, graduating from Jonesport High School in 1949. He was a veteran of U. S. Air Force from 1950-1954, serving honorably in the Korean War.
After a brief stint with Metropolitan Life Insurance, Donnie’s career centered in the banking business. He worked for Union Trust Company of Ellsworth, rising to manager at the Ellsworth Shopping Center and Milbridge branches. After retiring from UTC, Donnie was the first manager of the Machias Savings Bank, Columbia Branch, where he retired in 1994.
Donnie was a member of the Jonesport Lodge #188 A.F. & A.M., recently receiving his 60-year pin. He became an active member of the Anah Shrine in June 1977 and the Washington County Shrine Club, where he served as president for one year. He was a founding member of the Anah Mini Car Unit and honorary member of the Anah Wheelers. He served nine years as an Anah Greeter and two years Chief Greeter, six years as an Aide and was a member of the Director’s staff. He was a member of the Rumery Chapter #46 Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the York Rite and Scottish Rite and past Director of the Royal Order of Jesters #150.
Donnie was involved with community activities and boards, serving as a coach of the Milbridge Little League, a director on the SAD 37 School Board, and a member of the Milbridge Water District, Milbridge Cemetery Committee and Petit Manan Ambulance Service.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carolyn, of Milbridge; two sons, Donald, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL and Jeffrey and wife Melody, of Ellsworth; 4 grandchildren, Amy Caldwell and husband Dan of Jacksonville FL, Erin Wright of Searsport, Courtney Taylor and husband Jacob of Ellsworth, and Cristin Wright of Ellsworth; five great grandchildren; Sarah Rowell, Danielle and Carolyn Caldwell of Jacksonville, FL, Benjamin Curtis of Orland, and Lucas Taylor of Ellsworth; special niece Susan Mills and her husband Buddy of Jonesport, and many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, mother-in-law Leona Kelley (1994) brother-in-law and sister-in-law Robert Smith (1997) and Sally (Clark) Smith (1985), sister-in-law Joan (Clark) Joy (2008), nephew Shawn Joy (2005), and granddaughter Jill Wright (1982).

Graveside services, with military honors will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery, Milbridge. A gathering of remembrance and refreshments will follow at Seaworthy’s, 23 Main Street, Milbridge.
