Roland M. Cheney

Lubec-
Known as “Cheney the Barber”,age 90 ,passed away July 31, 2017 at DECH , surrounded by his loving family. Roland was born March 20, 1927 in Lubec, the son of Jasper and Tryphenna (Tyler) Cheney .Roland married the love of his life, Viola ( Morrison) Cheney on April 6, 1953. They spent 57 wonderful years together, raising two children.
Roland spent much of his young life on various Light houses including: Libby Island off Bucks Harbor and Whytlock Light in Calais, Maine. It was during this time that Roland developed his love of boats. Roland could recognize any type of vessel coming or going. Roland also enjoyed bowling, golf and pool.

Roland worked as a barber for 43 years. “Oh! The stories that were told .” He was also a bus driver during the 80's for the State of Maine, Unorganized Territory. He loved all the children on his bus route, and treated them as his own. Roland especially liked treating them to an ice cream on the last day of the school year. . His great-grand children was his pride and joy, always bringing a smile to his face. . Roland was a very social person who always enjoyed his morning coffee, and the local stories at Gene’s Bayside Chocolates, McFadden’s Variety, and Sunrise Café.

In addition to his parents Roland was predeceased by his wife, Viola Cheney ; a brother Forrest ,and a brother- in law, Keith Robinson.
He is survived by his son Joseph ,and his wife Helen of Veazie ; his daughter Anne Seavey, and her husband Roger of Lubec ; Grandchildren -Katie Greenlaw and husband Mark , Evan Seavey, Greg Cheney and wife Chelsea , Alison Cheney, and fiance Eric Lessard ; Great grandchildren - Jade, Alyssa, Ryan, Rob, Amelia, and Maggie, and a sister Ella Mae Robinson.

Visiting hours will be held from 9am until time of Funeral Mass at 11am on Thursday August 3, 2017 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lubec . Internment will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery, Lubec. Immediately followed by a reception at the Parish Hall
