Obituary for Neil Willey Tenan

NEIL WILLEY TENAN
CHERRYFIELD - Neil Willey Tenan, 82, died May 27, 2017, after a short illness. He was born in Cherryfield, Oct. 20, 1934, the son of Arthur and Maryanna (Willey) Tenan, as the third of their five sons. He graduated from Cherryfield Academy in 1951. He married Ellen McManus on June 25, 1954. They would have celebrated 63 years of marriage this year. The union was blessed with a daughter, Emily, who was her father’s greatest pride.
Neil served in the U. S. Army Signal Corp for 5 yrs., as an electronic communications and security specialist. He was a member of the American Legion.
He was the owner of his own building construction company for many years and could build and design anything. His many projects were unique and one of a kind. He also loved family and local history and furnished information on those subjects to family and friends. He was a member of the Cherryfield Historical Society. He took great pride in the restoration of Cherryfield’s historic cannon.
Neil was most at home in the outdoors and would be at the hunting camp or his camp as much as he could; often with his family or his camp buddies. Hunting, fishing and on his ATV were his pleasures. He belonged to several outdoor organizations.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen of Cherryfield; daughter Emily and son-in-law Stephen Lilienthal of Thomaston; three sisters-in-law, Lois Tenan, Marita Tenan and Judith Tenan of Cherryfield; brother-in-law Paul McManus and his wife, Pam, of Eddington; and many beloved nieces and nephews, both Tenan and McManus. His aunt Erma Willey lives in Milbridge. He has a large extended family of cousins that often connected with him. That close-knit family was important to him and is a source of great comfort to his wife and daughter.
He was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Adfer, Charles, Eugene and wife Eileen, and Victor; his father and mother-in-law, Tam and Frances McManus, a sister-in-law, Faye (McManus) Lunt and a brother-in-law, Linwood McManus.
Graveside services and internment will be held at Morse Cemetery, Ridge Road, Cherryfield at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, with Rev. Joyce Ingrisano officiating. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Narraguagus Snowmobile Clubhouse, Ridge Road, Cherryfield.
