Obituary for Bruce R. Reynolds

Bruce R. Reynolds, 93, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by family, on January 7, 2017 at the Marshall’s Healthcare Facility in Machias. Bruce was born August 1, 1923 in Machias, son of Robert and Annie (Davis) Reynolds.
Bruce grew up in Cutler with his grandparents on Sprague’s Neck, a place he dearly loved. During WWII, at a young age, he joined the Coast Guard. He was stationed aboard the USS LST 784 and saw combat at Iwo Jima. After the war Bruce returned home to his bride and together they raised a family of five children. Bruce worked many years in civil service from maintenance at Togus, to his later years as security guard at the Cutler Naval Base. He enjoyed the outdoors, loved his guns and was a crack shot with his firearms. Rumor has it he could shoot a hole through the center of a tossed coin. Bruce was always a joker who enjoyed making his rounds throughout Cutler to laugh and visit with neighbors. He was a regimented man and you could set your clock by his habits. Bruce enjoyed a slow and simple pace in life. Many remember when he drove home from Machias with a forgotten cup of coffee on his truck bumper and never spilled a drop.
Bruce is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Annie, a brother, Douglas; his wife Virginia of 69 years and a special granddaughter Molly. He is also predeceased by a daughter Donna and two daughter-in-laws Jeannie and Margaret. Bruce is survived by sons Daniel Reynolds and wife, Lynn of Oxford, Jerry Reynolds and wife, Julie of Phillips, and Tim Reynolds of East Machias; and daughter Toni Stauffer and husband, Larry of Cutler. Bruce will be greatly missed by many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren including three special grandchildren, Nicole, Nicholas and Krystal who lived nearby and have many treasured memories of ‘being at Pa’s house’. A special thank you to all the staff at Marshall’s Healthcare facility for their dedication, compassion and care of dad during his stay.
At Bruce’s request there will be no calling hours and a memorial service will be held in the Spring at the New Cutler cemetery.
