Obituary for Frederick Phinney

WATERTOWN- Frederick H. Phinney- age 97-passed away peacefully in his sleep on the 14th of July 2016 at Sunrise Care Facility in Jonesport, Maine. He was born December 20, 1918 in Hannibal, NY to Fred E. Phinney and Kathleen Gracey Phinney. He is the last of 4 siblings and was predeceased by two wives, Ruth Case Phinney and Elizabeth Hart Phinney, one son, John Phinney and two grandsons, Kristen Phinney and Trey Phinney. He is survived by 6 children- Donna, Kathleen, Frederick Jr., Anne, Geraldine and James, 22 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Early in life he worked peddling fruits and vegetables throughout the eastern Adirondacks from the back of a pickup truck. in 1944 he moved to Mannsville, Ny and founded River Valley Turkey Farms which grew to one of the largest poultry hatcheries in the Eastern United States hatching 25000 poults a week which were delivered to destinations in the US, Guatemala and Russia. He also founded Empire Polled Hereford Ranch and River Valley Inn before moving on as a Real Estate developer and investor. Fred was an avid woodsman and hunter whose life hobby took him to the western Rockies, Canadian Wilderness and Adirondack Mountains. He supported the National Rifle Association and his hunting expertise was shared with his children, grandchildren and friends.

A funeral Mass will be said at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 22, 2016 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville with Rev. Christopher Carrara, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Reed (Fairview) Cemetery, Lowville. Calling hours are from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Rd., Lowville, NY 13367. A gathering will immediately follow the burial for family and friends at the home of Anne Tibbetts, 24450 Williams Rd., Rodman, all are welcome.
