Pearl Joyce Neves, 90, passed away peacefully at her home Dec.28, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was born Feb. 8, 1923 in Mill Village, Queens County, Nova Scotia the daughter of the late Rubert and Floriance (Morton) Grant .
She was a graduate of North Quincy ,MA high school. Following graduation she worked during WWII as “Pearlie the Painter” She later became an artist, and sold many many paintings at art galleries in Massachusetts . When not painting she was sewing quilts. In 1973 she moved to Cherryfield where she planted a big garden, and continued to do quilts . She returned to her love of painting, attending art classes at the Harrington High night school.
She is survived by a daughter Roberta J. Leavitt and husband Arthur of Northfield, ME and a son Richard A. Neves and wife Alice of Quincy, MA : a special friend and care giver for eleven years Thomas Conway of Cherryfield and his family Julia and Mary Conway of Me and Hugh Conway of MD ;
grandchildren -Kara DeOlivera of MA, Marshall Leavitt and wife Jessica of Augusta , Brandon Neves of CT , Krystal Neves of SC , Rachal Neves of Ellsworth, and Eric Neves and wife Kristeen of Corinna ; great-grandchildren- Felicera DeOlivera of MA and Alexica of Augusta ; great – great grandchildren Amanda Leavitt and friend Sean Mathews of Lubec, and Kaitlyn Curran and husband Joey of Calais ; cousins Michael Neves and family from NJ, Debra Talboth and husband Thomas of ME , Elizabeth Whirtier and husband Fred of AZ, Judy Sousa and husband Silvano of MA , and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins in the Nova Scotia area.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her step-father Hans Morton , her husband Humberto C. Neves, and a son Gary Neves.
Graveside services at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Cherryfield will be announced in the spring. Arrangements are in care of McClure Family Funeral Services Machias.
