Robert J. Newell Sr, 64, Fondly known by his friends as “Joker Joe” or “The Bird” passed away July 30, 2012 after a long illness at the Ocean View Nursing Home in Lubec. He was born July 18, 1948 in Pleasant Point the son the late Josephine Newell, and Lewis Dana. His father Lewis was killed during the Korean War and was the son of the late Grace Lewey and Alec Bailey. He was also predeceased by his brother Arthur B. Newell and his grandmother Elizabeth Lacoute.
He is survived by his children- Robert Newell Jr., Bernard Newell and Elizabeth Champagne of East Machias; sister Anita Sacobie of Kingsclear New Brunswick,Canada, brother Charles Newell and wife Susan of Milltown,ME, sister Mary Creighton-Parker and husband Robert M. Parker of Pleasant Point, brother Leroy J. Newell Sr. and wife Sally of Pleasant Point, Roland C. Newell Sr. and wife Susan. He will be missed by his niece Pearl Marie McWhorter of Virginia Beach; nephew William H. Creighton Sr. and his wife Joely of Bowdoin,ME and nephew Jeffrey Creighton and wife Ranel of Gulfport, Ms. He will also be greatly missed by his hunting buddies his nephews Roland C. Newell Jr. , Greg Newell, and Leroy J. Newell Jr. all of Pleasant Point. He is also survived by many more grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joker loved hunting and fishing, or just a walk in the woods. His special place was at the spring water in Perry and Split Rock where he spent a lot of time with his great friends Joe Mitchell and Pinto . He will be missed by all.
His family would like to extend a heart felt Thank You to the following-Ocean View Nursing Home including Margaret and Nathan Brown and staff who all took wonderful care of Joker; to Mary Graham and her husband Bill who were there when always needed to transport Joker many times to hospitals in Bangor and Calais; and Tony Nicholas and Roberta Ritcher for all the visits they made to him making his days a little brighter.
Visiting Hours will begin Tuesday evening July 31 at the home of his sister Mary Creighton-Parker 55 Bayview Drive Pleasant Point and will continue until a Catholic Funeral Service to celebrate Joker’s life will he held at 10 am Thursday Aug. 2nd at St. Anns Church Pleasant Point.
