Obituary for Peter Jay Haycock

Peter (Pete) Jay Haycock age 53, passed away unexpectedly on February 26, 2017 surrounded by his loved ones after a long period of illness.
Lubec
Pete was born on July 21, 1963 in Nashua New Hampshire to Louise (Mealy) Haycock and Everett Haycock but made the move to Lubec in his youth. After Graduating from Lubec High School in 1984 Pete began working on the water. From a young age, he loved the ocean and was often found on various boats fishing for urchins and scallops. He also worked the land as a clammer, raked berries in the summer, tipped in the winter months, and enjoyed carpentry.
While Pete was not known to be a large man, he more than made up for his small stature by having a big heart and a generous soul. He was a man who loved life and loved having fun, and always had a story to tell, and would never hesitate to help anyone in need whether he had the means to do so or not. He could talk to a perfect stranger and come out with a new friend, and always had a smile and a “hi” to any and all. He was passionate about animals and nature. He had a large aquarium that he took pride in showing to all, and could tell you exactly what type of birds were at his bird feeders and what they liked to eat.  When he became too ill to take care of his beloved Dog Bailey it broke his heart and he swore he would get better , if only to be able to be with her again. He was an avid reader of both fiction and poetry and had an extensive collection of Stephen King books that he would lend out to whoever needed a good read. He enjoyed walking. You would often see him with his homemade walking stick in hand, wandering Straight Bay or around town in Lubec.  Pete was also a man who loved music. While Pink Floyd and Frank Zappa were on his list of all time favorites he was known to crank some Adele if the mood struck. He diligently followed his Buffalo Bills every Sunday and would always say “That’s OK they will win next time” whenever they suffered a loss and made friends while on-line gaming from all corners of the world.
Pete was pre-deceased by his mother Louise and father Everett as well as by the love of his life Brenda Gross. His care for her will have forever earned him his wings in heaven. Pete is survived by 3 brothers David and wife Karen Haycock of New Hampshire, Richard Haycock and Ellen of Calais, Maine, Michael Haycock of Addison, Maine and Sister Libby and Husband Dan of Massachusetts. Nieces and Nephews: Sean, Benjamin, Kristen, Staci, Katie, Jordan, Jonathan, Timothy, Morgan and Molly. Step-family Lea Farrar and husband Jamie from Calais, Maine, Bobbie Barker and Husband David from Wilsons Beach NB, Billy Gross and Darcy of Cutler, Maine and Tim Gross and Alicia from Portland, Maine.  Papa-Pete will be sorely missed by his grandchildren Gary, Alyssa, Jaxon, Kolin and Mason.
Pete’s family would like to give special thanks to his Doctors and Hospice Nurses for their care and dedication. He spoke very highly of you.
At Pete’s request a funeral will not be held but a celebration of his life is scheduled for Saturday, March 4th, 2017 at 1pm at the American Legion in Lubec. All are welcome to attend and celebrate in Pete’s life. In Lieu of flowers please send donations to McClure Family Funeral Services, RE: Peter Haycock, 467 Dublin St, Machias Maine 04654.
