Obituary for Douglas L. Norton

Douglas L. Norton

Jonesboro

Douglas L. Norton , passed away peacefully February 7, 2017 at home after a long hard-fought battle with cancer. Doug was the son of Clarence and Pauline (Lowe) Norton of Jonesboro.
Over the years, he worked in the textile mill in Machias, and later earned a master electrician's license while employed by Wendell White. Doug eventually started his own business and worked as a master electrician for over 40 years, during which he acquired many life-long friends.
Doug was an avid duck hunter and looked forward each fall to hunting with his son Leigh, grandsons Jacob and Logan, and on occasion his little granddaughter, Marin. Landon , who loves all living creatures, declined heading out on these adventures but loved the family's boating trips in the summer . In later years , Doug enjoyed hunting with his dear friend Larson Alley . Doug loved hunting with his black labs and dearly loved Mindy , Misty , Molly , and Quinn each throughout his life.
Doug also enjoyed snowmobiling and four-wheeling with family and friends as well as the annual family trek to Look's Island each summer. He loved picnics on the fourth of July, and was happiest when the whole family was together . He was very proud of all their accomplishments and was not afraid to share his advice on the importance of “having a good paying job !”
Doug is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ellen (Smith) Norton ; his daughter Paula Norton McBrine and husband Judson of East Machias ; his son Leigh Douglas Norton and wife Rhonda of Turner ; four precious grandchildren – Jacob McBrine , Landon McBrine , Logan Norton , and Marin Norton ; his sister Donna Alley and husband Mark of Jonesboro ; two nephews Shane Renshaw and wife Valerie of Marshfield , and Matthew Renshaw and wife Donna of Jonesboro ; a niece Tina (Renshaw) Lidaman and husband Jeff of Wyndham ; a special cousin Webster Kelsey and wife Marilyn of Kittery, and mother-in-law Frances Smith of Jonesboro.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his father-in-law Adain Smith . A graveside service will be announced in the spring.
