Obituary for Norma D. Faulkingham

Norma Duguay Faulkingham

Norma D. Faulkingham passed away peacefully at Sunrise Care Facility in Jonesport on January 22, 2017, at the age of 86. She is now resting in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, free from her pain and suffering. Norma was born August 22, 1930, to Frank and Ruby McKenney Duguay in Columbia Falls, Maine.

Norma attended the Tibbettstown Grammar School and later went to Columbia Falls High School. She worked various jobs during her lifetime such as raking blueberries, packing fish, and working as a Nurse’s Aide at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Jonesport. In her final years of working she worked as an LPN at Downeast Community Hospital in Machias. She embraced her job as a nurse and was dearly loved by her many colleagues and the patients she served.

Norma was a wonderful bread and pastry cook, an art she learned from her mother, Ruby. Her delectable yeast rolls were the family favorite at holiday gatherings, and her sliced pumpkin pies … no one could duplicate! Christmas was her favorite time of year as she baked for her family and relished in seeing her children and grandchildren open their gifts.

Close to her retirement, Norma was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. As devastating as this was, she faced her surgery and treatments with a heroic heart. She continued to go and enjoy life in spite of periodic medical protocol. She always had a flair for style and looked impeccably beautiful throughout her life. Her faith in God also kept her strong and focused.

During the past 17 months Norma has resided at the Machias Veterans’ Home, and the last several days of her life she spent at the Sunrise Care Facility in Jonesport. The family wishes to thank the caring and loving staff at these two facilities for guiding her through the difficult stages of Alzheimer’s.

Norma was predeceased by infant twin sons, Donald and Dennis, her husband, John Faulkingham, parents Frank and Ruby Duguay, sister, Gleness Faulkingham, and brother, Gary Duguay. She is survived by her children and their families: Cheryl Faulkingham Fernald and her husband, Jeff of Ellsworth; Johnny Faulkingham and his wife, Vicki of Jonesport; four grandchildren: Cindy Fernald of Ellsworth and Scott Fernald and wife, Kelly of Northport; Nicholas Faulkingham and wife, Lillian of Jonesport; Lindsey Alley and husband, Jeff of Jonesport; four great grandchildren: Macie and John Eben Faulkingham; Morgan and Cole Fernald; two brothers, Leroy Duguay and wife, Cathy, of Columbia Falls and Richard Duguay of Ellsworth. She also leaves behind a very special companion of 38 years, Ronald Randall of Jonesport, as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and acquaintances.

Norma leaves us a legacy of love with an enthusiasm for life, laughter, dance, some great cooking skills, and a flair for fashion. She was also a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox. She will always be remembered as a fun-loving lady with a huge heart, always ready to give a hug and to say, “I love you.”

Services for Norma will be held at the Sawyer Memorial Congregational Church in Jonesport on Saturday, January 28, with Pastor Phyllis Merritt officiating. Visiting hours will be 12:00-1:00 with the service following at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a special donation to the activity fund at Machias Veterans’ Home, 32 Veterans Way, Machias, ME 04654 or to the activity fund at Sunrise Care Facility, 11 Ocean Street, Jonesport, ME 04649.
