Lauris “Gump” Miller

Lauris “Gump” Miller , 88, passed away unexpectedly December 8, 2016. He was born in Lubec May 16, 1928 to the late Frank Vernon and Geneva (Wilcox) Miller.
In 1954 he married Shirley Sprague, and they raised three children together . Gump , as most people knew him, was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to fish and hunt ,making many trips to the Allagash .He was best known for his talent of building custom grand lake canoes, and his unique sense of humor . He spent 20 years working in the Lubec school system as a custodian / bus driver and another 10 years driving school bus for the Maine E.U.T. System . He was self employed over the years as a lobster fisherman and carpenter. He instilled in his children a strong work ethic , honesty , and a love for the outdoors .
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Shirley ; three children – Deborah Seeley and her husband Michael ; Gary Miller and his wife Nina , and Teresa Ramsdell and her husband William ; five grandchildren – Matthew Jones , Pamela Dinsmore , Dylan Case , and Nicholas and Savannah Miller ; one great- grandson Gavin Jones ; several step-grandchildren ; nieces , and nephews who loved him dearly; two younger brothers Phillip Miller and Robert Miller and their wives.
