Lubec

Gary Laskey , 56 , passed away at his home in Lubec after a courageous battle with emphysema . His

fight with this disease finally came to an end on April 2, 2016.

Gary received his GED from Lubec High School in 1977, and shortly thereafter entered the

U.S. Army . He served 3 years at Fort Lewis, Washington and was honorably discharged in 1980.

He returned to Lubec, where in 1981, he married Penny Tyler. He and Penny had two children ,

Barrett Born in 1982 , and Brennan born in 1992. As is the case with many people in Downeast Maine ,

Gary was employed in many different lines of work . He was known far and wide for his ability to cut

wood , which was the job he enjoyed the most . The woods gave Gary a sense of peace and belonging.

In later years Gary decided to pursue a job at long distance trucking . He enjoyed those cross country

trips, especially when he was able to take his son Brennan with him.

He is survived by his two sons; Barrett Laskey of Richmond , VA and Brennan Laskey of

Lubec; his sister Linda Laskey Curry and her husband Terry of Yreka , CA ; his brother Michael

Morey and his partner Angela Stanley of Lubec. He is also survived by many nieces , nephews, and

cousins . He will also be missed by many friends .

He was predeceased by his parents Mavis and Wayne Laskey ; paternal grandparents Doris and

Theodore Laskey , and maternal grandparents Helena and Loring Griffin.

A Celebration of his life will be held 3-6pm Sunday April 17, 2016 at the Lubec American
