Alan B. Watts , 98, passed away Sept. 3, 2015 at Machias. He was born Jan. 1, 1917 in Jonesboro ,ME the son of Fred and Florence Watts .
He attended Jonesboro schools, playing ball for the Jonesboro Jets . He joined the U.S.C.G. in 1938 , graduating from the “ Aids to Navigation School” with high honors . He also obtained rank of expert in rifle and pistol shooting at the Wakefield, MA rifle range. He retired from the U.S.C.G. on April 1, 1959. Following his retirement he worked for twenty years in the parts department of Millard Whitney's garage .
He was predeceased by his wife of 71 years Louise (Dircksen ) Watts.
He is survived by a grandson Marty Alan Watts ,and a great grandson Jonathan Garrett Watts both of FL ; two brothers-in-law Henry Dircksen of Eddington , John Dircksen and wife Suzanne of Galaway, NJ ; several nieces and nephews . In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his name to the charity of your choice. A graveside service will be held 11 am Thursday Sept. 10, 2015 at the Longfellow Cemetery , Machias with Rev.
