Obituary for Harvard "Hardy" Gay


HARVARD “HARDY” GAY
BROOKLINE, NH AND EAST MACHIAS, ME
Harvard “Hardy” Gay, 71 died July 1, 2015 at home after a long courageous battle with cancer.  He was born July 22, 1943 in Machias, ME, the son of Harvard and Agnes Gay (Johnson).
Hardy attended Machias area schools and held various jobs in the area.  On November 27th, 1965 he married the love of his life and best friend Martha (Grover) Gay.   After they married they moved to New Hampshire where Hardy was employed at Hitchiner’s Manufacturing, a sub company of Metal Casting Technologies as a supervisor of operations in the foundry area.  After working there 45 years he retired and they moved back to East Machias.
Hardy was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3035 in Milford, New Hampshire, He was an avid blood donor with the American Red Cross taking pride in donating over 8 gallons of blood. He was also a member of the Saint Peter, the Fishermen’s Parish (Holy Name) Catholic Church.  
He enjoyed playing golf, woodworking, cooking, fishing, gardening, traveling the world and enjoying every minute of life that he and Martha was able to share.
Hardy was predeceased by his parents, mother in law Frances (Hennessey) Grover, Father in law Osmond Grover, sister Esther Beaudoin and brother in laws Ray Beaudoin and Stephen Preston.
Hardy is survived by His wife Martha of 49 ½ years, a son Clayton Gay and his wife Tammy (Cushing), A brother in law Werden Grover, A sister Mary Preston and Family, A brother Warren Gay and wife Cheryl and family, Along with step sisters and step brothers, many nieces, nephews and many extra special family members that he loved dearly and had a lot of great memories to cherish.  Although he had no grandchildren he had a special bond with Zach and Abby Desilets who helped fill that void tremendously.
The family would like to thank Down East Community Hospital and Community Health and Counseling Hospice for their professionalism and support during Hardy’s care.
A Catholic Mass will be held at Saint Peter, the Fishermen’s Parish (Holy Name) in Machias with Father Gaffey on Tuesday, July 7th 15 at 10:00 a.m.  Graveside services will follow at the Long Fellow cemetery in Machias.  After both services, Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories of Hardy at the Saint Francis Room at the church.
