Obituary for Charles Edwards

Charles Richard "Ed" Edwards, 72, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2015 unexpectedly at his home in East Machias.

Charles was born on October 7, 1942 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He was predeceased by his parents John and Mamie Edwards. He was predeceased by his wife Betty Lovejoy Edwards, in June of 2014, they were married 47 years. . He is survived by his three children Jennifer Edwards of Columbia Falls, Scott Edwards of Brewer and Jeffrey Edwards of Whitneyville. A very special sister, Joan Loeffler of Unionville, Virginia and a brother, John Edwards of Moscow, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Jacob, Janessa, Simon and Wyatt.

Charles graduated in 1960 from Scranton Technical High School. He entered into the U.S. Navy in January of 1961. During this time he served in Vietnam, on the USS Lang . On October 31, 1981 he retired as Radio Man Chief Petty Officer. In October of 1985 he entered into Civil Service as a Security Guard for the Cutler Naval Base and retired in 2005. While working as a Security Guard for the Cutler Naval Base he served as a firearms instructor for local law enforcement and the U.S. Navy. He also worked for the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and Machias Police Department. He was a hardworking man all of his life and took great pride in all he did to serve his country.

Charles loved the outdoors. He enjoyed spending time sitting on his deck at his home watching the many types of wildlife that frequented his yard. He greatly enjoyed hunting. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
