Retired Chief Petty Officer, Laurence F. Danforth Jr. 79, beloved husband to Donna (Dennison) Danforth died March 10, 2015 at the Bangor Veterans Home. He was born September 18, 1935 in Litchfield, ME the son of the late Priscilla (Astle) and Lawrence F. Danforth Sr.
He attended schools in Litchfield before entering the Army where he served in Korea . Shortly after honorable discharge he joined the U.S. Navy as a radio man. He served 23 years aboard many ships in the Pacific before retiring at Cutler ,ME as a Chief Petty Officer, with many ribbons and medals . He then worked as a security guard NCTAMS LANT DET Cutler,ME for 13 years before retiring. He was a member of American Legion Post #9 in Machias .He enjoyed traveling , fishing, hunting , camping , and was a great cook.
He is survived by his wife Donna ; three children Anthony A. Danforth and wife Diane of East Machias ,Laurence A. Danforth and wife Nickole of Stratford, CT , and Russell Danforth of Worcester , MA ; six step-children -Deborah , Gidget , Michael , Andrea , Audrey , and Jeffrey ; two sisters -Gloria Douglas and husband Merle and Audrey Whitten and husband Maynard ;two half-brothers George Danforth and Oliver Cromwell Jr. ; a half-sister Margo Speck ; and many grandchildren , great-grandchildren , nieces , nephews , and cousins .
Funeral services will be held 1 pm Friday March 13, 2015 at McClure Funeral Home 467 Dublin St. RT 1 Machias. Burial at Jacksonville Cemetery ,East Machias will be held in the spring.
